Limbic Friction.
The battle between the limbic system and prefrontal cortex. Between our primitive self and our rational decision making self. The battle between the we know we should do something and the we don't want to. Between the doing something vs not doing it.
We'll never regret the former but we often viscerally feel the latter. Fighting friction is cumulative. And falls in line with the Matthew Effect.

Create energy - through movement.
Create motivation - through discipline. Create identity - through work. Create opportunity - through risk. It’s okay to be nervous. Nervousness is normal. But what precedes nerves is most important.
Nervousness without preparation results in failure. Nervousness with preparation results in the chance to succeed. Made and introduction yesterday and described one of the individuals as Well Read and Well Experienced.
Could have also included Well Studied and while I don't know him to this extent, I'm sure he's also Well Lived. Well Read. Well Studied. Well Experienced. Well Lived. Would be neat to see where one, as a professional, fits on this spider graph. Probably would also include Well Mannered. It's okay to be overdressed.
In an interview, a meeting, dinner or work. If you overdress, even slightly, at least people will know that you took them seriously. Consider it a sign of respect. Progress is a dependant variable.
The two independent variables? Frequency and Consistency. Athletic development aside, training (you can call it "exercise) is simply building your buffer zone.
Consider it invisible bubble wrap. While often we think we're reading, listening and dealing with facts, truly we're only working with theories and opinions. Theories and opinions that are often replaced and/or enhanced further down the road.
So it's interesting when someone strongly holds their opinion as fact. Yet, years later also seem proud when they change their mind, proclaiming themselves as a 'life-long learner." Remember, "Strong Opinions, Weakly Held." ~ Paul Saffo A negative test doesn't mean it's not positive.
The test is only as good as the person performing it. We must always think upstream. This is thinking in 4K as opposed to 780p.
Upstream doesn’t necessarily mean proximal. It can mean also distal. Especially in closed kinetic chain movements. Upstream can also mean variables other than musculoskeletal. Think mechanism. Think lifestyle. Environmental and social factors as well. |
