The guiding principle of this site is “evidence-informed sport health” and it appears that the Canadian Medical Association, as a whole, would like to place a ban on human cock-fighting…er…mixed-martial arts (MMA)…here in Canada.

    From the article;

    “Dr. Anne Doig, outgoing CMA president, said one of the primary responsibilities of physicians is to promote good health.”

    My question is how many people are dying annually in Canada from MMA? How many are suffering life long injuries?

    Now compare that to those who are dying from smoking or obesity. I think the CMA needs to learn to pick their battles. God forbid they stand up to the corporate giants!

    every sport comes with risks. even driving in a car or eating at a restaurant comes with risks. is the Canadian Medical Association going to ban anybody from leaving their house? if people are willing to accept the risks of MMA and step into the ring fully aware of the dangers, what right does the Canadian Medical Association have to stop them?
