TAYLOR SWIFT – KYPHOSIS

Interesting to see the amount of hyper-kyphosis in Taylor Swift’s upper Thoracic spine at the Grammy’s last Sunday night.

To her defense, however, I am seeing this more and more in my patients, especially as a result of today’s “on-your-butt” lifestyle.

How the on-your-butt lifestyle can affect your low back

Not only does this lifestyle greatly affect low back posture (I know this because those are MY radiographs from the JMPT article by my colleague Dr. De Carvalho), but as you can see with the soon-to-be Mrs. Lautner, the chain higher up is affected as well. Unfortunately, this dysfunctional posture predisposes one to many movement disorders including decreased shoulder range of motion. I would bet anyone a bag of roasted coffee that if I gently stuck my thumb on her coracoid process, she’d hit a high note she never hit before!

Regardless, there ARE ways to combat this, one of which being the exercise described below:
